| KEVIN BLOOM is an award-winning journalist, editor and author. He has written for a wide array of South African and international publications, including the UK Times, The National of the UAE, and Global Brief of Canada. In his native South Africa, he has won a Mondi Magazine Award and been named a finalist for a Mondi Newspaper Award. He was a recipient of the Writing Fellowship at the Wits Institute of Social and Economic Research (WISER) in 2008/2009, which enabled him to focus full-time on completing his first book-length work of narrative non-fiction, Ways of Staying. The book, published in South Africa by Picador in April 2009, was named amongst the best overall titles of the year by Sunday Times, Sunday Independent and The Witness, and was shortlisted for both the University of Johannesburg Debut Prize and the Alan Paton Award, Africa’s most prestigious non-fiction prize. It has been published in the United Kingdom and Canada, by Portobello/Granta and House of Anansi Press, to similar acclaim. Kevin has a postgraduate diploma in journalism from Rhodes University and an MA in Creative Writing (awarded with distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand.
