Prof Micere Mugo, Scholars and Authors to add value to 4th International African Writer’s Conference

Prof Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo, the world-renowned poet, playwright, literary critic and scholar, will headline the 4th Africa Century International African Writers’ Conference on 6th and 7th November 2015, Tshwane Events Centre and Little Theatre, Tshwane.

Prof Mugo will deliver the 4th International African Writers Day Lecture, titled: African Orature Artists and Writers Birthing Humanizing Sankofa-Visions of Utu, Ubuntu and Justice for All.

The conference will culminate in the South African Literary Awards (SALA) prize-giving ceremony, to be held on the 7th November 2015 at the Tshwane Events Centre, Tshwane, Gauteng Province.

Since 2005, these premier literary accolades have honoured 133 authors in eleven categories and 11official languages.

Two more legacy programmes, Afreelitmarts and Afreewriteplayarts Expo, are going to be launched, featuring artists from different cultural disciplines in a multimedia performance that encompasses poetry, live painting, music, literature, theatre/drama, African food court and fashion, African games, arts and crafts and book exhibitions. This all-inclusive platform this year will include a diversity of people living with disability, some of whose works will be showcased for the first time.

AfreeWritePlayArts Expo is a family day outing with lots of fun and educational activities comprising storytelling, drumming, music, puppetry, magicians, competitions, poetry, African Food Court, fashion show, African Games Exhibitions and more. This programme will create a platform for children, youth and adults to learn and enjoy Africa’s indigenous heritage, arts and culture. With half of the continent’s population being under the age of 25, SALA organisers decided to target the future by devising a programme that speaks to the next generation.

SALA is the brainchild of the wRite associates and have over the years received partnered with the Department of Arts and Culture and SABC as a media partner.

This year, we are proud to announce that KARA Heritage Institute and TUT Radio Stations have joined this historical programme.
