About the Tsebe Reading & Book Club

The Tsebe Reading & Book Club (TR&BC), founded by the wRite associates, is named after a small rural village called Ga-Tsebe in Tshwane. It was established in July 2011 as the wRite associates’ contribution to the Nelson Mandela International Day activities.

Supported by the local schools and the community at large, the Club has hosted writers such as Mr. Mosala Huma (Setswana and English writer and publisher), Ms Portia Mahange (C.A (S.A) author, founder and CEO of Voice of Poets Investment Holdings), Dr. Matthews Phale (Psychologist and Setswana writer), Dr. Oswald Mbuyiseni Mtshali, the local schools principals and teachers. Its primary goal is to cultivate the culture of reading and writing and appreciation of indigenous languages in the Tshwane community.

The Club invites writers, readers and the general public to discuss books, literary topical issues and to take part in other interactive platforms to promote the culture of writing and reading. The Club also hosts literary talks and workshops. The sessions take place one Sunday a month from 13H00 – 15H00.

The members of the Club comprise Primary and Secondary School learners. Young and old community members also support the Club.

The programme varies with each session. Topics covered focus on what is happening in the communities and country as a whole. The programme participants range from veterans to newcomers, old, young, male and female. The programme history is attached below.

Book exhibitions of participants and other literary work are always featured at the Club sessions.

Members are encouraged to donate whatever amount they can afford to every time the Club meets.
