Charl-Pierre Naudé is the author of three volumes of poetry in Afrikaans and one in English. His latest publication is Al die lieflike dade (2014, Tafelberg) (“All the comely acts”). The English work is Against the light (Protea Book House, 2007).
He is the winner of the Ingrid Jonker Prize for poetry (1997) for Die nomadiese oomblik (The Nomadic Instant) (Tafelberg) published end 1995; MNET Prize for Afrikaans poetry 2005 to In die geheim van die dag; PROTEA Prize for Afrikaans poetry (2005), for In die geheim van die dag; and the FNB Vita/English Academy Poetry in Translation Prize, was awarded in 1999 for translated poem Brave New World to Richard Jürgens, the translator.
Most recently he was on the shortlist for Al die lieflike dade with two other poets for the Elizabeth Eybers Prize for Poetry (2015) and the ATKV Woordveertjie Prize (2015).
Since 2000 he has read at numerous international poetry festivals, most notably: Poetry International, Rotterdam (2000, 2009, 2014); Bremen Poetry On The Road (2009), and in Cologne (twice (see unabidged CV), International Berlin Literary Festival (2015); International Spier Poetry Festival, Stellenbosch (2007), and was the guest of honour at Maastricht International Poetry Nights in 2012. He has toured Indonesia and the Low Lands and read in Switzerland, among other countries, as a poet.
He has been awarded residency scholarships by the Sylt Foundation, PEN (Belgium) and the German Exchange Service for artists (DAAD)( in 2015).
His poetry, prose and essays have been translated into Dutch and into German and published in literary and other notable magazines over the years.The latest of these publications have been in Terras (Netherlands) and Schreibheft 84 (Germany).
He writes prose in both Afrikaans and English, with a novel in Afrikaans and another novel (in English) underway.
