Kelwyn Sole was born in Johannesburg in 1951, and has lived there as well as in Botswana, Namibia and the U.K. He taught for many years at the University of Cape Town, retiring as a Chaired Professor at the end of 2016. He has published numerous articles on South African and postcolonial literature, as well as editing a selection of contemporary South African poetry for the U.S. literary journal The Common in 2012. The winner of a number of awards for poetry, as well as academic articles on South African and postcolonial literature, his creative and critical work has appeared in journals, websites and anthologies both in South Africa and overseas. He has published seven individual collections of poetry.
