Willem Anker (1979-) is an author, playwright and academic. He was born in Citrusdal, matriculated in Wellington and received his D.Litt at the University of Stellenbosch in 2007.Buys (2014, Kwela), his second novel, won the Hertzog Prize, the KykNET-Rapport Book Prize (Fiction), the University of Johannesburg Prize (Afrikaans) and the WA Hofmeyr Prize. His first novel, Siegfried (2007, Kwela) was also nominated for the K Sello Duiker Award, and won both the Jan Rabie-Rapport Prize for He is currently studying Creative Writing through UNISA and continues to write, often in his mother tongue, Tshivenda. Innovative Literature and the University of Johannesburg Debut Prize in 2008. His published and acclaimed plays include Samsa-Masjien (2015, Protea), Skrapnel (2011, Protea)and Slaghuis (2007, Genugtig!). He teaches Afrikaans Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Stellenbosch.
